RANCHO BERNARDO, Calif. (KGTV)--A possible kidnapping suspect crashed a vehicle and had a six-hour standoff with officers Sunday, according to the San Diego Police Department.
A witness, David Cancel, told 10News he saw the suspect's car try to make a left turn from Fieldstone Dr. to Pomerado Rd. around noon. The suspect’s car hit a white SUV, then flipped and hit a tree.
Police responded to the crash scene and saw a young woman near the car who told them she had been kidnapped. She was taken to Pomerado Hospital to be evaluated.
As paramedics and firefighters approached the man inside the car, he threatened to kill them, according to San Diego Police.
Officers say the man, 19-year-old Anthony Brewer, refused to leave his car. Police fired pepper balls and flash bang grenades, and Brewer surrendered just before 6 p.m.
Police are investigating reports from Cancel and another witness that a third person was in the car shortly after the crash.
The woman whose SUV was hit by the suspect’s car was also taken to the hospital and released.
