SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police said he hit his elderly mother in her head multiple times with a pair of copper pipes.

San Diego police said the incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the front yard of the woman's home in the 8900 block of Capcano Road.

According to police, the 81-year-old woman returned home and saw her 36-year-old son in the front yard. Police said the man squirted his mother with water from a garden hose, and she told him to take his medication.

However, the man picked up two copper pipes -- each two feet long -- and attacked her, hitting her on the top of the head about 10 times, police said.

The woman was able to enter the house to call 911, and responding officers arrived to arrest the man as he sat at a nearby park with the copper pipes.

The elderly woman was taken to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, police confirmed.

The victim and suspected attacker were not immediately identified.
