POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Dozens of North County students are doing their best to avoid a Summer brain drain just as their summer vacations days tick slowly away. They’re participating in a Challenge Island summer camp in Poway this week.

Camp leader Rebecca Tanag said the STEAM-based camp uses technology and games like Minecraft already enjoyed by kids to stretch their minds.
“You know summertime oftentimes kids just stay home and watch TV,” said Tanag.
She said the camp, which has similar events all over the country, encourages kids to work in groups “to collaborate, to persevere, to stretch their thinking.”
