DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV)--A man shot to death by a San Diego County Sheriff's deputy on Monday after officials say he attacked a Solana Beach Rubio's restaurant manager was identified today as 34-year-old transient Emmanuel Ibarra.

Ibarra allegedly stabbed 49-year-old Robin Rodriguez with a knife and fled the scene. Deputies located the stabbing suspect in the 3200 block of Camino del Mar, near the train tracks under the Via de la Valle overpass, around 4:24 p.m., officials said.

Ibarra still had a knife in his possession when deputies came into contact with him, officials said. He emerged from behind a concrete bridge support with the knife and "quickly moved toward the deputy closest to him."

That deputy lost his footing and fell backward.

A second deputy was able to distract Ibarra from the fallen deputy and opened fire after the suspect, still armed with a knife, "charged" him, officials said.

Additional deputies arrived and were able to disarm Ibarra, officials state, and medics administered first aid.

The cause of Ibarra's death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.
