Linda Vista residents say rent hike is forcing them out of their apartments

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Neighbors in Linda Vista protested rent hikes at The Village Apartments Friday afternoon.

Crestina Aaron isn't thrilled with her unit, saying her window has been broken since she moved in.

"I moved four years ago, and it has been like that since then," said Aaron. "No one has fixed it."

She says she also has leaks in the bathroom and cracks in the ceiling.

"The roof, there's a line over there," said Aaron. "So, we probably have to fix that too by winter time."

Aaron says management doesn't fix the problems but wants to raise rent for everyone in the complex.

"I do understand that there has to be an increase because everything's going up," said Aaron. "But, 10-percent, 20-percent increase it's not fair. Some of my neighbors have an increase of $300, $400."

With rent going up, some residents have nowhere to go.

"If we don't put a limit on this, if they decide not to work with us, we don't know what we're gonna do," said Aaron.

Residents are trying to negotiate a 2-percent increase with management. 10News reached out to the property manager Friday afternoon but have not heard back yet.
