SAN DIEGO - Police believe a 13-year-old boy's stabbing in the Lake Murray area was likely the result of horseplay gone wrong.

The incident was initially reported as a shooting shortly after 5 p.m. on Lake Murray Blvd. near Lynnhaven Lane. Police have determined no shots were ever fired.

Police said the injured boy and a group of friends were taking part in horseplay in front of a McDonald's restaurant on Lake Murray Blvd. when the boy felt a sharp pain in his shoulder area. He stumbled across the street to a bus stop, and at that point, someone notified authorities of the boy's injury.

The boy was taken to Rady Children's Hospital, and 10News learned he did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Officers are at the hospital questioning the boy, while other officers are questioning the boy's friends to figure out what exactly happened.

No other injuries were reported.
