SALTON CITY, Calif. (KGTV)--Border Patrol agents said a pregnant woman they suspected of smuggling methamphetamine at a checkpoint in Imperial County was treated for labor pains Thursday.
Agents said a canine team at the Highway 86 checkpoint alerted them to the black Ford Focus sedan driven by a 26-year-old man with a pregnant female passenger.
A secondary investigation revealed 50 packages of cocaine in hidden compartments in the floor of the sedan, according to the Border Patrol.
The drugs had a street value of $170,464 and weighed more than 53 pounds, agents said.
Border Patrol investigators said the man was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the 23-year-old woman was taken to a medical facility.
