SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police arrested a man suspected of grabbing a young boy and trying to hide him in his truck.

The incident was reported just after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 3600 block of Ontario Avenue, in the Fox Canyon area of City Heights.

According to San Diego police, a 6-year-old boy was walking to his family's vehicle ahead of his parents after a gathering when a man came up from behind and picked the child up.

Police said the 52-year-old man, identified as Michael Todd Mahurin, put the boy in the front seat of his truck and told him to lay down and not say anything. However, when Mahurin tried to drive away, his truck would not start, so he asked some nearby residents for help jump-starting the vehicle.

As Mahurin was getting help with his truck, the boy's family began searching for him -- not realizing he was in the truck the entire time.

Police said one family member came to the truck to ask for Mahurin's help. At that point, the family member spotted the boy inside the truck.

Family members contacted police and held Mahurin until officers arrived to arrest him.
