The Coronado Bridge was shut down in the midst of the evening commute Wednesday due to police activity on the westbound side of the bridge mid-span.
The police activity began shortly after 4 p.m., and both sides of the bridge were closed off during a law enforcement situation. Authorities said officers were speaking to a person who was standing on the westbound lanes.
Some cars caught up in the gridlock on the westbound lanes were told to turn around as the closure continued.
At about 5:40 p.m., Coronado police said the person was taken into custody. Lanes were fully reopened at about 6 p.m.
