A bird strike prompted a Houston-bound plane to return to San Diego International Airport Monday.

United Airlines flight 1451 departed Lindbergh Field Monday morning, but turned around after hitting a bird shortly afterward. The jet landed safely around 7:30 a.m., Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

The flight ultimately left shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to online flight tracking information.
