SAN DIEGO – A pedestrian was struck and injured by a northbound Amtrak train in Little Italy Friday morning.
The collision occurred at 8:27 a.m. at West Palm Street near Kettner Boulevard. The man was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. No one aboard the train was hurt.
The Amtrak train, No. 567, was expected to be delayed until about 11 a.m., the North County Transit District reported. The San Diego Trolley runs on its own line and was not affected by the collision.
San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the circumstances of the crash. It appeared the victim stepped in front of the moving train.
Deputies were unclear as to why the victim got so close to the train. Several duffle bags and backpacks were found near where he was struck.
