One person died in a fire that destroyed a trailer in a mobile home park in Escondido, a police sergeant said Saturday.

The blaze burned the trailer at the park in the 2700 block of East Valley Parkway at 9 p.m. Friday, Escondido police Sgt. Eric Witholt said.

Witholt said his information was sketchy since the fire took place on the previous watch. However, he did confirm that one person died.

A videographer at the scene told City News Service a man had burned down his mother's trailer and when firefighters entered after extinguishing the flames, they found his body. It's unclear why the person burned down the trailer.

The mother's whereabouts are unknown as of early Saturday morning.

The dead man's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No other injuries were reported.
