One person was arrested for allegedly furnishing alcohol to a minor during a sting operation by sheriff's deputies in the East County, in which minors were used to attempt to buy alcohol from stores or have patrons buy it for them.
Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, agents from state Alcohol Beverage Control and five minor decoys conducted the operation at various locations in Santee and Lakeside on Friday night, Lt. Christopher May said.
The "minor decoy" operation involved minors who tested 11 retailers, attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages inside their establishments. All licensed businesses where an attempt was made successfully turned the decoys
away, according to May.
Sheriff's deputies and ABC agents also conducted a "shoulder tap" operation in front of liquor stores where teenagers asked adults to purchase alcohol for them. Of the 31 adults who were contacted, one was arrested for
selling alcohol to a minor, May said.
The sting operation was funded by a $100,000 grant from the ABC to the sheriff's department.
