SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A new program in the North County is partnering CSU San Marcos students with the City of San Marcos to solve problems while providing real life job experience.

It's called Democracy in Action and allows participating students to work on actual projects for the city for an entire semester.

Both the city and the university say its a win-win that allows the students to learn about city government, attend a city council meeting, become more civically engaged and learn about career opportunities in government.

Last spring, which was when the program began, included projects that focused on a variety of areas including:

-A city promotional video capturing the spirit of San Marcos
-Finding ways to curb unnecessary 911 calls
-Marketing recommendations for city’s signature Double Peak Challenge 10K
-Analyzing data to help identify areas where trash collects in the city’s drainage network and ultimately reduce storm water pollution
