SAN DIEGO – A Marine pilot based out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar was killed when his jet crashed during a training mission east of Palm Springs Thursday night in the Mojave Desert.
At about 10:30 p.m., an F/A-18C Hornet crashed near the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, according to a news release from MCAS Miramar. A Third Marine Aircraft Wing pilot died in the crash.
The circumstances and the name of the pilot were not confirmed. The cause is under investigation.
