ENCINITAS, Calif. -- A man in line at a taco shop in Encinitas was reportedly stabbed at random by a knife-wielding man Friday night.
“No words transferred between the two of us, just stabbed me and walked away,” said the victim, Conner Rhoads of Oxnard.
Rhoads and two of his friends were getting tacos from The Taco Stand on South Coast Highway before heading down to Mexico for a weekend surfing trip.
“I just got in the taco line,” Rhoads said. “Stood for about 10 seconds. A guy walked by, stabbed me in the back of the leg, and kept walking.”
Rhoades looked down and found a two-inch gash on his leg.
“I just kind of thought I got hit by a skateboard or a bike or something. It felt like a dead leg. I looked and the guy was walking and my friend Tommy said that he had a knife. And I was like, ‘I don’t think I got stabbed.’ And so I pulled down my pants and looked at it.”
Rhoads and other witnesses said the man was acting strange.
“I turned around to see, and he came around the car with a bag and was acting very frantic, and he was swinging it at the girls,” said Rhiannon Benson, who was walking with some friends.
San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies responded and arrested the suspect. His name was not immediately released.
“Yeah, they caught him and they tazed him, so that’s good,” Rhoads said.
Rhoads headed to the hospital after he got his tacos. He is expected to be OK.
