SAN DIEGO – Several Good Samaritans rushed to the aid of a man who was struck while running across State Route 163 in the Linda Vista area overnight Thursday.
At around midnight, a man was hit on northbound SR-163, north of Friars Road. According to witnesses, one car swerved to avoid the man, but a second car couldn’t avoid him.
The victim struck the windshield of a car with two occupants and was flung into the air and landed on the ground.
"And I thought some debris hit the car, and he was like, ‘we just hit a person,’ driver Alec Hale told 10News. “So we pulled over and go to assist him and the guy is clearly on drugs, out of his mind, impaired."
Several drivers stopped their vehicles and ran to help the victim. Witnesses said they had to hold him down on the shoulder until paramedics arrived because he was trying to get up and run back into traffic.
Despite the severity of the impact, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital with only minor injuries. The people in the car were not hurt.
California Highway Patrol officers said no charges would be filed against the driver.
