San Diego's average rent equal to Honolulu

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Rent is so high in San Diego, you might as well move to Hawaii.

A study done by WalletWyse using data from Numbeo showed a list of 540 cities worldwide, grouped by the average monthly apartment rent cost.

San Francisco, already known for its skyrocketing housing prices, topped the list as the world’s most expensive rental market at $3,500 per month.

San Diego was number 14 at an average of $1,900 per month.

That figure was matched by other cities including:

  • Honolulu
  • Arlington, VA
  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Luxembourg, Lux.

The cheapest major city was Cairo, Egypt, with an average price of $150.
