SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Train service between downtown San Diego’s Santa Fe Depot and Oceanside will be shut down through the weekend due to rail and station maintenance and improvement projects.

The full rail closure begins at 12 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9; service is expected to resume by 5 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11.

North County Transit District (NCTD) Coaster, Metrolink, Amtrak and freight carrier BNSF are the train services affected by the weekend closure.

SANDAG officials are encouraging train riders to allow for more travel time on Monday, “as trains could be delayed in arriving at their destinations.”

Multiple projects will take place over the weekend, including a plan to double-track parts of the rail corridor “to improve capacity for all four operators.”
