CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – Two people were arrested and another is on the run after an armed robbery at a Chula Vista grocery store.
Chula Vista police said the robbery happened at the Ralphs store on East Palomar Street, near Medical Center Drive, just after 5 p.m.
According to police, the three people involved were armed and wearing bandanas when they entered the store.
Responding officers were able to locate and arrest two of the suspected robbers in a nearby canyon. Both arrestees were identified as juveniles.
A Ralphs employee that was inside at the time of the robbery said no one knew what was happening until the group had left the store.
“Most people didn’t know it happened until after it happened, and then the cashier said were just held up,” the employee said. “And then we saw some kids running out. Then we found out afterward that they had hit the pharmacy before they hit the check stands.”
Police said they recovered a backpack full of prescription drugs and a gun.
The store remained opened as police conducted their investigation. Police are looking for security footage that can help them find the third person involved.
Police did not say how much prescription drugs the robbers stole from the store. They could not confirm if cash was taken from registers.
