SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Music equipment that fell onto freeway lanes near downtown San Diego led to traffic collisions but also grabbed the attention of thieves.
At around 12 a.m. Monday, authorities were notified after large cases of expensive audio equipment and speakers apparently fell from a vehicle onto the lanes of southbound Interstate 5 near Sixth Avenue.
Several vehicles hit the cases and struck each other as drivers attempted to avoid the items on the roadway.
The 10News Breaking News Tracker’s camera was rolling as one driver stopped his SUV on the freeway, got out and dragged one of the items into his vehicle before speeding away.
Several minutes later, a man believed to be homeless hopped over the center divider and scurried across the freeway lanes. The man was seen dragging a 22-inch Yamaha drum to the shoulder before disappearing in the night.
The California Highway Patrol arrived a short time later to clear the scene. It is unknown if the vehicle that dropped the equipment ever returned to the area.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
