CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - Two teens were arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed a playground in a Carlsbad neighborhood Monday morning, police said.

Carlsbad police said firefighters were called to respond to reports of a fire in an area at Sweetwater Street and Coral Reef Avenue at around 3:45 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find a playground fully engulfed and burning near several homes. Crews were able to douse the flames before it reached any houses.

Carlsbad Fire Department investigators determined that the fire was started intentionally by an unknown accelerant.

An investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy, according to police. Neighbors say the teens are siblings.

One neighbor told 10news the same teens were caught slashing tires on a Ring camera about a year ago. The car owner - who has since moved away - didn't call police but went directly to teen's parents to 'deal' with it.

10news tracked down the teens' father, who declined comment.
