DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Two people were rescued from a fire that ripped through a home just blocks from a beach in Del Mar.

The second-alarm fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of 27th Street, near Camino Del Mar, according to authorities.

Fire crews believe the fire started in the home’s fireplace and burned upwards. Firefighters saw flames shooting out of the two-story home’s attic when they arrived at the scene.

Sheriff's deputies were able to escort an elderly man and woman from the home as crews from numerous local agencies battled the flames.

The flames and subsequent hot spots were knocked down, but the house sustained major damage.

No injuries were reported.
