SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A search is on for a driver after a car veered off a Santee road and landed in the middle of state Route 67 lanes early Tuesday morning.

At around 12:45 a.m., authorities were called to the northbound side of SR-67, near Pepper Drive, in response to a Toyota Camry that was found abandoned on the lanes.

Authorities believe the Camry somehow drove through the dead end of Pepper Drive, smashed through a fence and guardrail, and then landed in the middle of the highway.

After the crash, the driver fled the scene.

Two lanes were blocked for a short period as authorities and a tow truck cleared the wreckage.

No injuries were reported.
