(KGTV) - A school bus quickly swerved to avoid a car on a Spring Valley roadway Thursday morning, but at least three children on the bus were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Helix Street, authorities told 10News.

The bus driver said the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District bus was on its way to school when a car pulled out of an apartment complex at a high rate of speed.

The driver veered away from the car to avoid a collision, but the maneuver jostled the children inside.

Nine students were on the bus at the time, and 10News learned at least three of them were taken to the hospital with injuries not considered to be serious.

Parents were called to the scene to pick up their children who were not transported.
