Chula Vista police are investigating the death of a newborn baby, whose body was found in his teen mother's bed.
According to police, emergency crews responded to a report of a non-breathing child at a home in the 4000 block of Main Street on Monday, at about 8:20 p.m.
Fire personnel discovered the young boy dead in a bed, and police said the child "appeared to have been born hours or days prior."
Police said investigators "determined that a 17-year-old female gave birth to the child approximately 24-36 hours earlier" and the teen claimed that she was "unaware that she was pregnant and unknowingly gave birth to the child while in bed."
The baby appeared to have been born following a full-term pregnancy, weighed about 7 1/2 pounds and showed no signs of suspicious injuries, said Lt. Fritz Reber.
The teen's parents found the child dead while making the bed and called 911, according to police.
Chula Vista police's Crimes of Violence unit and the county Medical Examiner's Office are working to determine if a crime was committed in this incident.
