Imperial Beach thieves steal Halloween spirit

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. -- Neighbors in Imperial Beach are upset after thieves stole several Halloween decorations from several front yards.

Connie Criswell has hosted a community haunted house for years along 7th Street. Even though she didn't do it this year, she still went all out with decorations.

However, thieves stomped on her enthusiasm when they stole her 7 ½ foot dragon right out of her front yard.

“I was just heartbroken because I worked so hard to get him and then for somebody to think that they could take him, could come onto my property and walk off with him like that, it was devastating,” Criswell said.

Her other neighbors were hit too. In all, the decorations stolen were worth a few hundred dollars.

Criswell says this Halloween heartbreak might be too much for her.

"We're still reeling from this," Criswell said. "And I feel like putting up a sign on Halloween night saying, 'we're dark because somebody stole the dragon and, you know, took away the spirit.' It took the wind out of me and I'm not sure that I'm going to do it any more or not."

San Diego police are investigating.
