District 6 City Councilman Chris Cate and the Environmental Services Department will begin the 42nd annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program Monday at a 9 a.m. news conference at The Greenery at Miramar Landfill, 5180 Convoy St.
The city's annual recycling program runs through Jan. 23, 2016.
Christmas tree recycling provides residents a free and convenient way to recycle trees after the holidays. Recycling trees produces useful mulch and compost, and helps extend the life of the Miramar Landfill.
The recycling program diverted about 1,400 tons of holiday trees from the landfill in 2014, translating into more than 150,000 individual Christmas trees.
