SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of Hillcrest business owners and residents gathered Wednesday morning to speak out against a plan by the San Diego Council of Governments to create more bike lanes in the neighborhood.
Phase 1 of the "The Uptown Bikeways Project" would add more bike lanes on 4th and 5th Avenues.
Those against the plan say it would come at the expense of parking, which is already difficult in the area.
According to their estimates, the lanes would take away at least 36 parking spaces.
The San Diego Association of Governments says the project was approved with the input of a community advisory group and would strengthen opportunities for business development.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin sometime in 2018.
