A weekend joyride at Patrick Henry High School in San Carlos left costly track marks all over the football field. Now, neighbors in the are want to know why the gates are often left unlocked.
A neighbor saw people joyriding and doing doughnuts on the field. Shortly after, they sped off with passengers hanging from thew windows - cellphones in hand.
That neighbor told another resident, Stan Zubel, about what happened and he had to go down and see for himself. He says, what he found was much worse than torn turf.
"Every interior gate that would have stopped this was just left casually open," Zubel said. "In one case a chain with a lock that hadn't even been closed."
He says the vandals drove through at least three open gates to get to the field.
"Nobody seems to be home here when it comes to the internal security of the campus," he said.
He wants the security issue to be resolved.
"The next time there could be more damage," Zubel said. "Can you imagine if they rolled their car and got injured coming down that ramp at 1:30 in the morning?"
The school district says minor damage was done to the field and it will be fixed soon. They also confirmed to 10News that they are working with law enforcement to make sure the campus gates are secure.
