LA MESA (KGTV)--Helix High School and surrounding schools remain on lockdown as a precaution following a report of a suspicious person seen leaving the campus with a gun Monday morning.
La Mesa Police located the suspect, unarmed, on the 7400 block of University Avenue shortly after a search by police helicopters and patrol units. He was cited for trespassing onto Helix High's campus.
Officials said earlier in a series of tweets that there was a report that a man seen walking away from the school who had a gun, but cautioned that it was an unconfirmed report by a single witness.
Police described the man's clothing as a striped shirt, grey sweats and blue shorts.

La Mesa Police is investigating reports of a male near Helix High, who supposedly had a gun. He was last seen walking away from the school.

LMPD officers have detained the subject. There were no weapons found. Officers will be clearing the area shortly.
