SAN DIEGO -- The second installment of property taxes is due Monday, and the county of San Diego Treasurer-Tax Collector's offices will be open with extended hours to accept payment.
Any remittances received after the close of business will incur a 10 percent penalty on the entire bill due, plus a $10 fee, according to Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister. He said of the 986,858 bills mailed in September, about 195,000 remain unpaid.
"Since April 10th (fell) on a Sunday this year, we have given taxpayers an extra day to pay," McAllister said.
"I want to thank the San Diego County taxpayers who have already stepped up and paid their property tax bills," he said. "Last year, taxpayers helped us reach a collection rate of 99.2 percent -- a rate I know we can beat this year."
Offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Chula Vista, 590 Third Ave.; in El Cajon, 200 S. Magnolia Ave.; in San Diego, 1600 Pacific Highway and 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.; and in San Marcos, 141 E. Carmel St.
The downtown office in the County Administration Center -- the 1600 Pacific Highway address -- is the only one to accept cash. The downtown location also offers curbside payment drop-off.
