Hammerhead spotted off Huntington Beach

Posted
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- A hammerhead shark was spotted off of Huntington Beach in Orange County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Orange County Register, the seven-foot shark was spotted by a lifeguard at around 1 p.m.

An advisory was issued for a one-mile stretch of coastline, but the beach was not closed.

There were two hammerhead shark sightings off La Jolla Shores on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30. Lifeguards cleared the beaches and issued an advisory.

Experts say the increased sightings could be due to warm water moving up from Mexico because of El Nino.
