SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of fishermen came away with a record-breaking catch Thursday night.

The fishermen were in the charter boat "The Aztec" about 65 miles off the coast of San Diego when they nabbed a large fish that put up a big fight.

Eventually, the crew pulled up a Pacific Bluefin tuna about 7 feet long that weighed in at 310 pounds -- said to be a state record for largest Pacific Bluefin ever caught.

The charter boat's captain, Greg Gawitt, told 10News it's the first time a tuna close to that size has been seen off the coast since the 1920s.

The fish cannot be sold commercially so it will be divvied up among everyone who was onboard the charter.

Gawitt said the catch came at the start of Bluefin tuna season.
