EL CAJON, Calif. -- Police are searching for the driver of a car that slammed into a fire hydrant in El Cajon late Monday night.

At around 11:45 p.m., a car crashed into a fire hydrant in the 600 block of Dominguez Way, in a residential area near El Cajon Valley High School. The drive ran from the scene as water gushed out of the hydrant and flowed into the street. El Cajon police said there was six inches of standing water at one point.

It took Heartland Fire & Rescue crews about 30 minutes to shut off the water valve. No nearby homes or buildings were flooded.

As of early Friday morning, police were still searching for the driver. Police did not disclose if they know his identity.
