Gear stolen from Chula Vista Cub Scouts

A Cub Scout Pack in Chula Vista had thousands of dollars in gear stolen Sunday afternoon.

Pack 810 had their trailer and attached grill parked in front of their den leader's home on Dorothy Street near Industrial Boulevard when they were taken.

Now they’re hoping to raise enough money to replace everything that was stolen.

"I was kind of not believing it was gone," said John Vogel, who normally parks the trailer behind a fence.

"I was just really surprised it was missing," said Vogel.

The grill was painted yellow and blue. A former den leader and his son built it for the Cub Scouts and donated it to them about 10 years ago.

"It's certainly something that is very, very meaningful to the pack. It's been the center. Like I said, of all of our camp outs, like I said, which is one of the major things we do with the boys, and it has everything in it," said Vogel.

He estimates the trailer and all of the supplies stored in it to be worth roughly $5,000.

"It's really stealing from a group of boys, boys who are learning to be good citizens, boys who are learning to be honest and truthful and that's who is affected by this," said Vogel.

His 10-year-old son Kevin hopes they raise enough money to go on their next camping trip scheduled for November.

"I'd just ask for it back cause there's so many kids that want it back," said Kevin.

The pack has set up a GoFundMe account to collect donations.
