EL CAJON (Calif, (KGTV) - A gas leak outside of Parkway Plaza mall in El Cajon forced the evacuation of a Walmart store at the shopping center.
The leak was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. outside of west end of the mall on 605 Fletcher Parkway, according to authorities.
Mall officials said a construction crew working in the parking lot struck a one-inch gas line, causing a leak.
Mall officials and responding El Cajon police officers, evacuated customers and employees from the Walmart store and the west side of the shopping center as a precaution.
A San Diego Gas & Electric crew is working to repair the severed gas line, 10News learned.
The mall is expected to open at its normally scheduled 10 a.m. time, officials said.
