LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - On Friday afternoon crews responded on the ground and in the air to a brush fire in a La Jolla canyon.

The fire was reported shortly before 12 p.m. in a canyon off the 5600 block of Rutgers Road, just east of La Jolla Mesa Drive.

Officials with San Diego Fire-Rescue Department have determined it was caused by a homeless encampment.

Crews were able to get the fire out and protected all nearby homes.
