Thick smoke quickly filled the Southcrest home

A family of five was forced to run from their home in pajamas, after a house fire in Southcrest. The parents with their three children, including a daughter in a wheelchair, narrowly escaped as thick smoke filled the home.

Anthony Garza lives in the neighborhood, he says he didn't know there was a fire until the power went out.

"I was hanging out, watching TV and all of a sudden the power outage. 20-30 seconds later, started smelling something burning." Garza said. "So we come outside, we see smoke and that's when ambulances started showing up."

The San Diego Fire Department was able to contain the fire to the first floor of the home, there's no word yet on what caused the fire.
