Extra trolley service scheduled for opening day

To accommodate 50,000 people expected to attend the San Diego Padres' opening day game against the Dodgers on Monday, the Metropolitan Transit System scheduled extra trolley service, officials said.

All three trolley lines will have departures a minimum of every 15 minutes most of the day, with passengers being dropped off near Petco Park, MTS officials said Friday.

Trolley service for Monday is as follows:
-- Green Line trains will depart stations every 15 minutes most of the day. Service will increase to every seven minutes between Qualcomm Stadium Station and downtown 2 1/2  hours prior to first pitch. After the game, trains will depart every 7.5 minutes until crowds diminish.
-- UC San Diego Blue Line trains will depart stations every 15 minutes most of the day. Service will increase to every 7.5 minutes 1 1/2 hours prior to the first pitch. After the game, trains will depart every 7.5 minutes.
-- Orange Line trains will depart stations every 15 minutes most of the day.

Trolley stops with high-capacity free parking are;
-- Qualcomm Stadium, 5,000 free parking spots (Green Line);
-- Palm Avenue, 499 free parking spots (UC San Diego Blue Line);
-- El Cajon Transit Center, 469 free parking spots (Orange Line/Green Line);
-- and Spring Street, 404 free parking spots (Orange Line).
