SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An 83-year-old woman with dementia who wandered away from a Point Loma-area nursing home was spotted by a bystander about a half-mile from the convalescent hospital.
San Diego police said Luzanta Weeks walked away from Point Loma Convalescent Hospital (3202 Duke St.) at about 8 p.m. Monday. She was last seen wearing a nightgown and pink slippers.
At about 2 a.m. Tuesday, Tamra and her husband were collecting recyclables near the Valley View Casino Center parking lot off Sports Arena Blvd. when they spotted Weeks behind a Dumpster.
Tamra told 10News she thought Weeks was homeless, but when she realized she was not, she contacted police.
"It makes me feel a little relieved and happy because it could've been my grandparents or my mom or dad if they were in that situation. I'm just happy she's safe right now," Tamra said.
Weeks was taken from the scene in an ambulance, but Tamra said she did not appear to be hurt or scared when she spoke to her.
