DUI arrests up in state, San Diego County during 2018 Memorial Day holiday weekend

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol Monday reported just one traffic-related fatality on San Diego County highways and surface streets under their jurisdiction during the first 60 hours of this year's three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and ended Monday at 6 a.m. During the same period last year, there were no traffic-related deaths reported.

Statewide this year, there were 28 traffic-related deaths during the period, compared to 23 last year.

In San Diego County, the CHP reported that 72 motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, up from last year's total of 53.

Statewide, there were 941 DUI arrests, up from last year's total of 818.
