DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's summer racing season comes to an end Monday.

There are 10 races Monday.  The gates open at noon and the first post is at 2 p.m.

The season started July 13 and included concerts, food and drink festivals, and the TVG Pacific Classic.

It has been a pivotal season for jockey Sasha Risenhoover.  She grew up on a farm, but not around race horses. After obtaining a job at a racetrack in Texas, she knew she wanted to become a jockey. She soon started racing horses, and would eventually become the Texas rider of the year.

Risenhoover is now at Del Mar and says she's "a small fish in a big pond." While most of the established riders are racing everyday, Risenhoover spends her mornings at the track networking and meeting owners and trainers in hopes of getting a ride.  This season she had 13 rides with one second place and two third place finishes.

Racing isn't over for the year. The Bing Crosby racing season runs Nov. 1 through Nov. 26.

For the first time, the DMTC will host the Breeders Cup.
