MISSION VALLEY — Hatchimals, the hottest toy craze, prompted some sleepy-eyed dads to line up early at the Target store at Westfield Mission Valley Sunday morning.
Last Tuesday, a Target spokesperson announced that each store would receive dozens of the coveted toy to be sold today when stores first opened. 10News reporter Matt Mendes caught some dedicated parents camped out at 3 a.m. to purchase the $59.99 toy egg that hatches and can be taught to walk, talk and even dance.
If you're lucky enough to score one, consider yourself lucky. They are reportedly becoming hard to find, although retailers like Toys R Us are periodically replenishing supplies throughout the holiday season.
"My son says 'I want a Hatchimal for Christmas.' I said 'Okay, sure.' Of course they're sold out everywhere. So we don't want to pay $200, $300 for one so here we are," said one father.
Some have taken to searching online auction sites such as eBay only to find the price inflated to hundreds of dollars.
