SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crews are breaking ground Wednesday on a major project in Pacific Beach that many believe could be a major headache for drivers in the area.

The $103.5 million Jefferson Pacific Beach development on Mission Bay Drive will essentially serve as the gateway to Pacific Beach, and it will include 172 luxury apartments and plenty of space for retail and offices.

While the project will have some unique amenities, such as a surfboard repair/DIY station and storage space for watersports equipment, many in the community feel traffic could become a big concern for the already densely populated area.

Developer JPI says they are hoping to upgrade existing traffic signals and add at least one more to alleviate any potential traffic messes on Mission Bay Drive.
