Creepy clown sightings prompt La Jolla school advisory

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Another San Diego neighborhood is on the lookout after parents reportedly saw a clown creeping around Bird Rock Elementary School in La Jolla.

Two people claim they separately saw someone in a clown mask outside at the school Tuesday night. It was enough to prompt school officials to call police and notify parents.

On Wednesday, a letter went out to parents from Principal Dr. Amanda Hale warning that students should not walk to school alone.

“Last night (Tuesday), there were two reported incidents with a clown on campus,” the letter read. “At approximately 5:30 p.m. a clown was facing our campus upper field area. The parent contacted me and the police to inform us of the incident. At approximately 7 p.m., a clown was seen on the north side of campus near staff parking, facing classrooms. Both SDUSD School Police and the San Diego Police Department were contacted, the police investigated and there were no sightings of the clown on campus.”

A local resident thinks the clown sightings could lead to violence.

"It's going to be dangerous,” said Kyra Rashid, who lives nearby. “Honestly, I think it's a little too much of a threat to everyone's safety. People are going to take it as too serious of a threat and approach these clowns with weapons."

Last week, Montgomery Middle School in El Cajon had to be placed on lock down because of a clown threat posted on Instagram.
