LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Drivers and pedestrians are urged to plan ahead as a set of closures goes into effect in La Jolla Tuesday night.
The closures are a result of the I-5/ Genesee Avenue Interchange project, which will replace the existing six lane Genesee Avenue overpass with a 10 lane structure.
Keep San Diego Moving reports that the new structure will accommodate current and future traffic demands in the job intensive community.
The project is part of the improvements planned along I-5 in the North Coast Corridor. Along with the replacement of the overcrossing, the project will also widen the freeway access ramps, add an auxiliary lane in the northbound direction on I-5 between Genesee Avenue and Roselle Street and construct a new, separated bicycle/pedestrian path, according to Keep San Diego Moving.
The list below shows planned closures at the I-5 / Genesee Avenue Interchange. Motorists and people on bikes are advised to plan their travel accordingly and avoid the area if possible. Pedestrian access is closed throughout construction.
