Minors who attempted to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products in Vista were turned away Friday night, as the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a citywide sting operation using under-age decoys.

Deputies from the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving program (COPPS) out of the Sheriff's Vista station targeted every retailer in the city that sells tobacco products, according to Deputy Frank Stalzer.

A total of 35 businesses were visited by the plain-clothes minor decoys, all of whom were turned away. No arrests were made and all of the retailers were found to be in compliance, Stalzer said.
