LINDA VISTA -- A cat found with its leg caught in a trap had to be euthanized and county animal control officers want to know who set the trap.

A resident found the cat Sunday in the 3900 block of Canning Avenue in Linda Vista.

The animal, a male cat that was approximately four years old, was taken to an animal care facility. Workers there determined the damage to the cat's leg was so severe that the animal should be euthanized.

It is illegal to set such traps and the county's Department of Animals Services is actively trying to track down whoever put it there. If caught, the person could face criminal charges of felony animal cruelty and jail time of a year or more.

Anyone with information can call the county at 619-767-2740.
