Former Olympic champion Bruce Jenner spent years living what he has called a lie. Two years ago, he decided he could no longer hide his truth - and announced to the world that inside, he had always been a woman.
ABC's Diane Sawyer was the first to sit with Jenner and ask about how he had come to his decision. She asked what life was like for 65 years, and what the future held.
Two years since the interview, Bruce is living life as a woman and has fully emerged as Caitlyn. Jenner says through becoming Caitlyn, she's learned a lot about compassion.
On Friday, ABC 20/20 released the Diane Sawyer special "Caitlyn Jenner: the secrets of my life." For the second time, Sawyer and Jenner met. This time, to discuss the struggles, effects and politics of Jenner's life as Caitlyn.
In their interview, Sawyer circled back to a question she asked Jenner two years ago.
"Bruce Jenner is...?"
Back then, Jenner replied: "Bruce Jenner is...I would say I've always been very confused with my gender identity."
In 2017, the question has changed to, "Caitlyn Jenner is...?"
This time, she responds "happy, peaceful."
In the interview, Diane Sawyer asked the long-time republican questions that many have been curious about for the last two years.
Diane Sawyer: Are you still a Trump Republican?
Caitlyn Jenner: "Yes I did vote for Trump, but here's the deal breaker with the republican party...you mess with my community, you do the wrong thing with our community, you don't give us equality and a fair shot...I'm comin' after you."
Jenner made headlines two years ago after she was asked by Ellen Degeneres what she thought about same-sex marriage.
Diane Sawyer: "How do you really feel about gay marriage?"
Caitllyn Jenner: "I am 100% behind gay marriage, let's clear that up right now."
20/20 didn't miss a beat with Jenner, who has happy to open up about different aspects of her life - including how her relationship with her children has changed since transitioning to a woman.
